Port KC

As part of the "MO River Murals" initiative—a vibrant public art project led by Port KC in collaboration with Spray KC—Nicole Salgar transformed a dramatic 40-ft × 12-ft concrete wall beneath the Town of Kansas Bridge into a sweeping visual narrative. Painted live during the 2024 MO River Mural & Music Festival, the mural features two women rendered back-to-back, wrapped in abstract color fields and framed by hawthorn blossoms—the state flower of Missouri—evoking themes of duality, identity, and nature’s presence in urban life.

The festival allowed the public to watch her creative process unfold in real time, surrounded by food trucks, music, and local vendors—embodying art as a communal experience. Through this impressive scale and moment, Salgar’s work contributes to the broader effort of reimagining industrial structures as public canvases and encouraging civic pride and engagement.
